  • Professionalism

The discussion assignment provides a forum for discussing relevant topics for this week on the basis of the course competencies covered. For this assignment, make sure you post your initial response to the Discussion Area by the due date assigned.

To support your work, use your course and text readings and also use outside sources. As in all assignments, cite your sources in your work and provide references for the citations in APA format.

Start reviewing and responding to the postings of your classmates as early in the week as possible. Respond to at least two of your classmates. Participate in the discussion by asking a question, providing a statement of clarification, providing a point of view with a rationale, challenging an aspect of the discussion, or indicating a relationship between two or more lines of reasoning in the discussion. Complete your participation for this assignment by the end of the week.

Using your text and South University library resources, address the following questions:

  • Reflect on one of the professional interviews you have completed.
  • Attach an e-mail from the person you completed the interview with, showing completion of the interview.

Introduction

Welcome to Week 5 of the Physical Systems course! This week, we will be discussing the concept of physical systems and how they evolve over time.

To support your work, use your course and text readings and also use outside sources. As in all assignments, cite your sources in your work and provide references for the citations in APA format.

Your initial posting should be addressed to these two prompts:

To begin, you should identify the basic structure of physical systems and their components. You should explain how these systems evolve over time, including discussion of feed-forward and feedback loops.

Identify the basic structure of physical systems and their components.

The basic structure of a physical system is the way that its components are organized. For example, a physical system might consist of an object (e.g., an apple) and its environment, such as earth or air. A second example would be water in a lake or ocean with all its various properties (temperature, pressure).

In order to understand how systems evolve over time, it’s important to know what makes up these types of systems. It’s also helpful to understand how they interact with one another; this can help you see patterns when observing different types or sizes within your own life experience!

Explain the key concepts explaining how systems evolve over time, including discussion of feed-forward and feedback loops.

Feedback and feedforward loops are two different types of feedback loops. Feedforward loops involve adding energy to a system, while negative feedback occurs when energy is removed from it. Positive feedback occurs when energy flows back into the system after being removed from it in the previous step.

Feedback and feedforward are both useful for controlling systems that may be too large for us to control directly, or have too many variables that we cannot predict ahead of time (like weather). In order for your system to operate properly, you need some sort of control mechanism that can help keep everything stable over time—this type of control can be achieved through either positive or negative feedback loops!

Key concepts from this week’s readings

You should have a good understanding of the concepts and vocabulary covered in this week’s readings. To prepare for the discussion assignment, read through each of these items again briefly and make sure you understand them:

Feedback loops.

Feedforward loops.

Systems are made up of components (elements). Components can be physical or non-physical, such as software programs or hardware devices like microchips or circuit boards. Components are connected by interfaces that allow them to interact with each other; these connections are also referred to as connections between components, connections between systems and/or connections between humans and other human groups/organizations etc.. The term “system” refers specifically to collections of interacting parts that work together according to some set rules or procedures – it doesn’t necessarily mean anything physical!

Conclusion

In this assignment, your goal is to post a brief response to the Discussion Area by the due date assigned. Your initial posting should be addressed to these two prompts:

Identify the basic structure of physical systems and their components.

Explain how systems evolve over time, including discussion of feed-forward and feedback loops. Note that this assignment is not timed so feel free to post a lengthy response if you find it helpful! We recommend at least one paragraph per question above; however, if you want more space for writing out your ideas or explaining them in more depth, please feel free yourself by adding additional paragraphs as needed before submitting your work for review at the end of class time (see below).
