ORIGINAL QUESTION – Consider the influence of big data and algorithms on the future of leadership in diverse organizations. What do you see as the greatest future challenges leaders will face? Support your view.

STUDENT 1- ERIN

The evolution of technology cannot be stopped. It is always advancing, and society is doing its best to keep up. We as individuals must adapt and change to new technology, but organizations will need to as well. I believe that one of the greatest future challenges leaders in diverse organizations will face has to do with privacy. Privacy and protecting information have always been a concern for individuals, and in this day and age, even more so. The problem is that the rules and laws that protect consumers' privacy and rights can't always keep up with advances in AI and big data (Ferrell & Ferrell, 2020). Even if your organization is taking the correct actions ethically with data, other organizations in similar fields may not be, so it is important for leaders and organization to work on building and maintaining that trust with consumers. In addition to issues of privacy, the issue of values in data analysis in AI is an issue as well as AI and big data is supposed to allow for the uncorrupted ethical analysis of data. The programmers in charge of writing and maintaining the systems may not be, so the question becomes how does one input ethical decisions and values into AI that doesn't compromise the organizations ethical culture (Ferrell &Ferrell, 2020)? I think a lot of the questions leaders will be asking themselves in the future is should we be influencing big data and algorithm with their own ethics or should we let the advancements guide our own ethical evolution.

STUDENT TWO – JUSTIN

Big data is utilized by organizations to uncover specific trends that could provide clarity to organizational leaders. Large data could be specific to investing, employee turnover, or others. Currently, I believe organizations lean on the understanding and comprehension of big data heavily. This, in time, will become a very common practice that can create large organizational growth and positive business outcomes. However, with positive business outcomes leaning on the data, the workplace environment and the leader understanding their employee may be missed. Additionally, as leaders focus on data, leaders would be less inclined to show integrity and be ethically accepting of diversity. Leaders and those making decisions can maintain a sense of integrity and ethics in their decision-making procedures by considering ethical principles like equity, long-term viability, security, societal norms, openness, responsibility, and adaptability (Besir, et al. 2023). While leaders can focus on the big data in the decision-making procedures surrounding the data, leaders should be more inclined to lean on the ideas of integrity like openness. I believe in the future, leaders will lean on data more than their employees which can cause instability and less adaptable working enviorments as the leaders is more outcome focused than employee focused.

STUDENT- GARY

Considering the influence of big data and algorithms on the future of leadership in diverse organizations, I can’t help but consider the changing nature of work and artificial intelligence challenging leaders. The Evolving Characteristics of Work refer to how organizations are structuring themselves (such as defining company, department, team, and job boundaries) and establishing the methods through which individuals engage in their daily tasks and interact within different social frameworks. (Church & Burke, 2017) A notable change occurring in today's organizations revolves around favoring the digital domain over mechanical methods for business operations. With technology becoming increasingly integrated into daily life, the necessity for quick adaptability in meeting information-related demands forces businesses to adopt a digital mindset and establish related procedures. (Church & Burke, 2017) Artificial intelligence is also a challenge for leaders, especially around their leadership. In the sphere of leadership and strategic choices, it's crucial to take a careful and thoughtful stance when contemplating the ethical application of artificial environment. (Besir, et al. 2023) Leaders and those making decisions can maintain a sense of integrity and ethics in their decision-making procedures by considering ethical principles like equity, long-term viability, security, societal norms, openness, responsibility, and adaptability.
