Q1

"What Is Social Psychology?" After describing your pre-study definition, use it to explain a social situation, which is anywhere two or more are gathered, that you find interesting (e.g., gang involvement, crowd behavior, obedience to authority, altruistic actions).

Q2

Reflecting on the patterns of adolescent development described in the readings, how much did your adolescent peer group follow the developmental patterns you studied?  What aspect of adolescent development do you think is the most challenging for today's adolescents and why?  Be sure to support your writing with references/resources.  Simply giving an opinion is not sufficient..

Q3

For the past seven weeks, we have been thinking about research methods in psychology and the important role they play in understanding the world around us. Reflect on what you have learned in responding to these questions:

· What impact might research methods have on the future of the field of psychology?

· What is the most important concept you have learned in our time together in class?

· As you consider your personal narrative, what tools and insights can you apply from the course to become a more educated consumer of psychological research in your daily life?

Q4

In 2012, Facebook conducted an experiment on 700,000 Facebook users without these users knowing about the research. Facebook divided these users into two groups and displayed more negative content in the news feed of one group and more positive content in the news feed of the other group. Facebook found that those users who had more negative content in their news feed were more likely to make more negative posts themselves. The opposite was found with the other group as more positive posts were made by individuals who experienced more positive content.  You can read more about the above study  here.

Considering what you have learned about ethics in research this week and throughout the course, what ethical issues are raised by this Facebook study? What consent issues were present in this Facebook study? Could there have been any issues with regards to vulnerable populations in this study? How would you feel if you found out that you were unknowingly part of this Facebook study? Finally, considering the hypothesis of the study that more negative content would lead to more negative posts and vice versa, could Facebook have addressed this hypothesis without manipulating the news feed content of these 700,000 Facebook users?

Q5

Part I

This segment of the discussion asks you to examine due process. The Due Process Clause is a guarantee of basic fairness. Fairness has many components to it. Here, please thoroughly discuss each of the following:

1. What are the various components of due process in criminal procedure?  In your response, include some examples of procedural protections that are afforded to individuals in a criminal case.

2. What is meant by "Fundamental Fairness"?

Part II

Please read the following fictional case scenario below. You will be using these facts over the next several weeks. The case heading and type of case is listed below.

PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS, Plaintiff

              VS.

Scott Mayo, Defendant

TYPE OF CASE-Criminal

SUMMARY OF FACTS

Scott Mayo worked as a bartender at The Local Watering Hole. One night at work, Scott got into an argument with Basil Scowen. Mayo owed Scowen $1500.00. The argument heated up and afterwards, Scowen picked up a beer bottle threateningly and appeared to be intoxicated, Mayo grabbed a pistol kept behind the bar and fired at Scowen, killing him. Mayo says Scowen told him, "I am going to kill you," and what he believed was imminent danger from Scowen.

Mayo was placed under arrest. He was not read his rights. He was transported to the local county jail. The prosecution witnesses are the police officer, who came to the scene and took statements from Mayo, and a frequent bar customer, Dawn Dietz, who witnessed some of what happened. The defense witnesses are the defendant, Mayo, and Joe "the fireman", who was outside and saw some of the action through the window while sitting on the patio.

Based on the facts provided to you, if you are the prosecutor, with what crimes will you charge Mayo, using your own state law? Please discuss why in your response, providing a detailed analysis of how you reach your decision on the charge(s).

Q6

1) Identify and discuss the constitutional protections afforded people accused of crimes. How did those protections evolve?  Outline how these protections might be different, if at all, from other points in the past.

2) Relying on resources that you acquire from the APUS library, evaluate the effectiveness of those protections.  Among these protections, which do you believe is the most important?  Why?

3) How did conducting library research help you to reach this conclusion?  Analyze how you applied critical thinking and legal analytical skills to assist you in this regard.  What do you think you do well and what would you like to strengthen so that you continue to improve?

4) Do you think those accused of a crime are given too many rights? What other rights do you think those people accused of crimes should be given, if any?  Why?

5) Collaborate with each other as the week goes on to make all aspects of this Discussion as robust as possible.

Q7

Provide examples of social media networking for marketing opportunities.

Q8

What impact does web video have in social media marketing and what is the importance of engaging in social media discussions?

Q9

"Background: The members of your project team are in serious conflict. They have split into two camps. The last team meeting was a disaster with four members of the team sitting on one side of the table and the other four on the other side. You could feel the tension in the air. You ended the meeting after only 30 minutes as it was apparent nothing was getting resolved at that time. You scheduled another meeting for the following Wednesday as you needed time to prepare your strategy.

What's Going On: You scheduled a meeting with each member of the team individually to understand what was going on from their perspective. During the individual meetings with the team members, you learned the following:

· Not all team members felt that they were heard in meetings and true consensus had not been reached in the past. Rather, team members felt that they were "pushed" into coming to agreement on solutions to past problems that arose on the project.

· During a few brainstorming sessions, team members felt that ideas were discarded in favor of ideas that were easy to do and no real brainstorming took place.

· Team members felt that some other members of the team were getting away with not completing tasks on time or of poor quality and that was impacting the workload of everyone else.

Early on in the project the team never worked through how conflict would be managed when it did arise on the project. You had collaborated with past teams about how conflicts would be managed but, given the quick start to this project, you didn't do so this time. You had a feeling this might be a problem but had hoped for the best. There were also correct that you were probably not the best person to help get through this conflict as it involved you also."

In your individual response, how would approach a solution?  In your group response, work through how your group would approach resolution.  Are there key differences?

Q12

By this point in class, you are aware of some food safety violations and this week you read about red flags to watch for when you are purchasing or consuming food outside your home kitchen. This week, please write a summary of a food safety violation you have observed in the past, and what resulted from that observation.

Did you speak up and tell a manager or ask that your food be remade? Did you walk out of the restaurant? Did you not want to make a fuss and ate it anyway, hoping for the best? Now that you know more about how harmful this food safety violation may have been, would you do anything differently today if you witness something that could cause harm to you or others?
