(Kafka) metamorphosis
After watching the lesson on animal transformation in literature, reflect upon this motif in Kafka’s story by incorporating some of the citations you have been collecting as part of the guided reading )please pick what interests you most):
– Which significance does the image of the woman in fur have for Gregor?
– In how far could Gregor’s metamorphosis symbolize a punishment? For what?
– Is he more human or animal?
– His sister Grete looks at him at one point as a “creature … We have to try to get rid of it” (41). At the end, he becomes “old matter” (46). Does his transformation possibly mirror the family and how they dehumanize him?
