Read the three fables in the attached document. The first is by Aesop, the ancient Greek fabulist (person who writes fables), who may or may not be a real, historical person. The second is by Jean de La Fontaine, a 17th century fabulist who revised Aesop’s fables for a French, Christian audience. The third fable comes from the tradition of the Panchatantra, which are the ancient fables of India and are still widely read in the subcontinent and the Mid-East.
Describe: First, define what is meant by a fable. Discuss the elements and themes of each fable
Interpret: Discuss the historical and cultural context for the three fables. Compare them to one another. How does each represent its cultural context? You may need to do some additional research to form your response.
