The role of human services organization is to ensure that the communities are working in better conditions. This applies in regard to allowing people to enjoy basic rights such as a sustainable way of living and the liability of basic necessities. As such organizations are in a constantly changing strategic position, as an Executive Director to such organizations requires more than just basic skills. As the organization does not have a fiscal agent, it puts it in a tough spot regarding getting adequate charities or donations to function adequately.
As a newly appointed Executive Director, the first job would be to identify my skills and determine the leadership style which would be pursued within the organization. Moreover, my priority would be to build trust and close relations with the advisors of the organization, who can further guide me on how to operate with the other stakeholders. As the organization envisions becoming its own fiscal agent, it needs to optimize its financial strategies and operations to gain more sponsorships and become stable. This requires teamwork, problem-solving skill, and dedication among all the employees, which a director can achieve with the right leadership.
Step 2 – What are various models of nonprofit organizations, 501(c)(3) status, that you could consider in order for the organization to become its own fiscal agent?
There are many non-profit organizations with 501(c)(3) status which have been functioning sustainably for years now. They have earned a global recognition for their performance in terms of being competitive. For instance, organizations like UNICEF and Compassion International are working in humanitarian services with a recognized 501(c)(3) status. Taking UNICEF under consideration, the organization does not give tax exemption to the donor, but the money within the organization is used for humanitarian services for absolute result.
The respective organizations have fiscal sponsors, around the globe, that help attain charities and donations and also help them to maximize their service outcomes. For any organization to become a fiscal agent, it is important to gain responsible and known fiscal sponsors. Organizations tend to become their fiscal agents because of uncertainty for the future. Having sponsors which can help achieve sustainability of income over time can accelerate the outcome of services of the organization.
Step 3 – How might the Saint Leo core value of respect be applied in this example of human services administration?
Saint Leo University has a core value of respect, where students of all ethnicities, sexual orientations, colors, and beliefs are welcomed. This shows that there is no biasness or discrimination within the premises of the institution, and all students are equally given the opportunity to achieve their goals. Every idea, opinion, and thought is welcomed, which can help young minds foster their talents and explore their true potential. The diversity within the institution allows everyone the art of acceptance towards others.
This attribute of respect and value can be applied in the example as the students and teachers collectively envision making communities better. They are playing their part in transforming the world into a better place to live. The Similarity between the human services administration and an institute fostering equal growth is undeniable.
