Use the module required and optional materials and your own research to respond to the following questions:

  1. Locate the Web site for your state’s health department.
  2. Summarize eligibility criteria for the Medicaid program in your state of residence.
  3. Describe your state’s Children’s Health Insurance Program (S-CHIP). What is it called? Who is eligible? What services are covered?
USEFUL NOTES FOR:

Laboratory reports are an essential component of a physics education.

Introduction

Experimental physics is messy, often frustrating and sometimes even boring. But it’s also an essential component of your education: you need to know how experiments work in order to learn how they’re done. If you ever want to be taught any subject by a physicist, you should take the time to write up your own lab reports. If nothing else, it will help you understand what’s involved with doing experiments in the field and how much work goes into that process.

They are written in your notebook, by you.

A lab report is a written account of a student’s work in a science class. The following narrative is an example of what one might see on a lab report:

We performed experiments on the effect of humidity on the speed of sound. We used two different microphones, one with a SpA rating of 2 and another with a SpA rating of 3. The results showed that both microphones responded similarly to changes in humidity levels; however, they did not respond at all when it was very dry outside (SpA=0).

The first step was to find out how much energy would be released by each chemical reaction under normal conditions before any heat transfer could occur between them; therefore we ran three trials with each reactant separately so as not to bias our results due to only one reactant being present at any given time during testing.*

They are graded.

You will get your lab report graded by your TA. Your TA’s grade is based on the following criteria:

The quality of your work (1 to 3 points)

The significance of the results (1 to 3 points)

Details about how you conducted your research and analysis (2 points)

You should not write another student’s lab report.

You can’t write another student’s lab report.

It’s tempting to want to help out your friends or classmates, but you should resist the urge. If they’ve done well in their labs, they’ll be able to write their own papers with minimal assistance from you (and if they have done poorly, then it’s best that you don’t try). It may seem like a nice thing for them not only to get help on something so basic as how much mass is lost when water boils at different temperatures (this answer is: very little) but also for someone else who has seen your version of the experiment before—so that he or she knows what kinds of things might be going wrong and how best fix them! But sometimes things just aren’t meant for sharing; sometimes it makes more sense not knowing anything about what happened at all than having firsthand knowledge about something as personal as one’s own mistakes

I know that you are enjoying this section of the book, and I want to thank you for reading it. If you have any comments or questions about what has been written so far, please send them in an email to me at [email protected]

Laboratory reports are an essential component of a physics education. You may wonder why I am so insistent on stressing this point: after all, lab reports are graded and they must be done by each student individually—so surely there is no need for me to discuss them? Well, yes—but first let me explain why it is important that your lab report(s) be well-done and worth showing off to your teacher(s).

Conclusion

We hope that this has given you some insight into the importance of lab reports. As we have seen, they are written in your notebook, by you. It is important that you make sure your report is well-written and free from errors. Lab reports should always be graded; if there are any questions about these requirements, please contact the instructor or TA for clarification. Finally, do not write another student’s lab report!
