Students will watch the documentary “Prison Kids Juvenile Justice in America” (2015) provided in the learning activities. After watching the full documentary and reflecting upon the information provided in the film, students will write a paper discussing how the Christian faith and our scientific understanding of sociology intersect on the topic of crime (or deviance as sociologists call it). Students should offer their unique perspective regarding how the two world views can complement or enrich each other to better understand and perhaps reduce the social problem of children and delinquent behavior. Students should consider Micah 6:8 as well as Matthew 25:35-40. Given the information in the documentary and the chapter on deviance from the textbook (Ferris and Stein, 2022), do these verses and others speak into the situation from a Christian perspective? What does a Christian perspective on deviance add to a sociological one? How does a sociological perspective of deviance impact how we treat this issue in the church and in our communities? Students must utilize the Ferris and Stein (2022), specifically chapters 5-6 as well as the Holy Bible to discuss this topic.

Paper should be 2-3 pages (not including title and reference pages) and formatted in APA. Please remember proper in-text citations.
