Create a post of a minimum of 300 words that answers the following questions. Number your responses but do not copy the questions. 

  1. The narrator’s name is Iphigenia. This is an allusion to Greek mythology. Read the first part of the Wikipedia article on Iphigenia. Why does the author choose this name for our narrator?
  2. Why have relations between the narrator’s family and Hayden’s family soured? What might be ironic about the location of Hayden’s family home? (Look up the definition of irony if you need to.)
  3. Say something about the different ways the following people or entities are responding to the crisis in Albertine’s Watch:

a. the state

b. Iphigenia's father

c. the tourists

 4. In the final paragraphs of the story, the narrator describes the experience of drowning in some interesting ways. Say why you think the author made the choices they did in portraying the drowning as she does. 

 5. After reading the article from The Guardian, briefly describe the connections you see between the various viewpoints expressed in it and the future imagined in “Albertine’s Watch”.
