Virtual Poster Conference

Poster presentations at conferences are effective methods of communicating research findings. The discussion of the research being presented is a key element in poster conferences. During professional conferences, poster presenters speak with other psychology professionals providing insights into the information offered within the poster as well as explaining key elements of the research findings. See the PSY699 Poster submission guidelines (https://content.bridgepointeducation.com/curriculum/file/facebe70-73ce-454f-b319- b775eb610134/1/PSY699%20Poster%20Submission%20Guidelines.pdf) for templates and guidelines to aid in the creation of your poster.

For this week’s discussion, you will be submitting a link to your Folio account where your colleagues will find your poster presentation along with a brief detailed explanation of the materials included in it. Poster presentations are typically informal affairs with limited time for presenters to provide extra information. In keeping with this, your explanations of the materials will be limited to specific parameters. To explain the research presented in your poster, you will be creating a 3- to 5-minute screencast video. You may use any screencast software to create this video. (For further assistance with specific free-use screencast software please see the Quick-Start Guide for Screencast-O-Matic (https://content.bridgepointeducation.com/curriculum/file/a33dfc76-87aa-47a1-83b5- f93a83f38071/1/Screencastomatic_Quick-Start_Guide.pdf) ) Within the screencast video, you will create a voice over that will point out unusual, unique, and important aspects of the

PSY 699 Poster Transcript:

Ladies and gentlemen and fellow enthusiasts of sports science, I am honored to stand before you today to present my research on a topic that sits at the intersection of physical prowess and mental fortitude – "Mind Over Matter: Exploring the Impact of Sports Psychological Intervention on Athletic Rehabilitation." My name is Kenny

2/1/24, 11:13 PM Page 13 of 15

Brown, and I am excited to share with you the insights from my exploration into the critical role of sports psychologists in guiding athletes through the mental hurdles associated with injuries during rehabilitation.

In the dynamic world of competitive sports, athletes are no strangers to the challenges posed by injuries. While medical advancements have propelled the physical recovery process, the psychological aspects of rehabilitation and the triumphant return to sport remain an underexplored terrain. Today I share with you the insights learned from my exploration into the critical role of sports psychologists in guiding athletes through the mental hurdles after injury.

Our primary objective was clear – to investigate how the interventions and strategies employed by sports psychologists influence the psychological readiness and triumphant return to sport after injury among athletes. Employing a mixed-methods approach, we combined qualitative interviews with quantitative measures to comprehensively assess the impact of psychological sports interventions.

Preliminary findings, as depicted in Graph 1, showcase the results of a confidence rating scale assessing how patients felt returning to sport after injury. The red identifiers represent those who did not receive psychological intervention, while the blue identifiers represent those who did. Notably, at three, six, and nine months, those who received psychological intervention consistently demonstrated higher confidence ratings during rehabilitation, highlighting the positive impact of psychological support.

Graph 2 delves into the pre and post opinions on the use of psychological intervention after experiencing it. The red identifiers represent pre-opinions, while the blue identifiers represent post-opinions. The data indicates a substantial increase in individuals expressing support for psychological intervention, with a concurrent decrease in the indifferent and against categories. This shift underscores the evolving perceptions and appreciation for the value that sports psychological support adds to the rehabilitation process.

Our qualitative data provide rich narratives, emphasizing the importance of personalized strategies in addressing individual athletes' psychological challenges during recovery. Themes of resilience, motivation, and coping mechanisms emerge as critical factors in successful rehabilitation. On the quantitative front, positive correlations between athletes receiving psychological support and enhanced

correlations between athletes receiving psychological support and enhanced psychological readiness are evident, translating into improved performance outcomes upon returning to sports.

In conclusion, my study, conducted under the guidance of the University of Arizona Global Campus, underscores the significance of integrating sports psychological interventions into the rehabilitation process. Tailored approaches that consider the unique psychological profiles of athletes are essential. By addressing mental hurdles alongside physical recovery, sports psychologists play a pivotal role in fostering resilience and readiness, ultimately contributing to successful comebacks post-injury.

The implications of this research extend beyond the realm of competitive sports. The interplay between sports psychology and rehabilitation informs practices in broader healthcare contexts, emphasizing the holistic nature of recovery. Professionals in sports medicine, psychology, and rehabilitation, within the University of Arizona Global Campus community and beyond, can draw upon these findings to optimize support systems for individuals undergoing physical and psychological challenges.

In essence, "Mind Over Matter" encapsulates the essence of my research – the profound impact of mental fortitude on the triumphant return to sport after injury. Thank you for your attention, and I welcome any questions or discussions on this critical and timely topic.

Thank you,

Kenny

What is the professional significance of conference presentations?

Conference presentations have great professional significance because such a presentation enables researchers to share their research results, ideas and innovations with colleagues and experts who work in the same field. These types of presentations help with networking, collaboration and exposure to different ideas. They support professional development through increased presentation and communication skills, improved engagement with the latest research projects, as well as heightened visibility among academics and professionals.

What aspects of the proposal process were most challenging for you, and why?

Writing the abstract according to the word limit and at the same time ensuring clarity and completeness was one of my biggest challenges during proposal writing. The need to find the right balance between brevity and necessary details demanded much thought. Moreover, a limitation was to reduce an in-depth research plan into an abstract that had fewer words than the study itself.

How would you describe the positive outcomes that may result from this proce
