Riverside Community Hospital (RCH) is near and dear to my heart – a place that I am proud to be associated with as a Registered Nurse (RN). RCH is a leading healthcare provider in Riverside, California, offering a comprehensive range of services and programs to patients in the area. In fulfillment of our Week 1 course discussion requirements, this brief outlines key information about the hospital, including its mission, ownership, designation, patient capacity, major departments, services, charity care, and subsidies. Let us get to it.

Hospital Information:

Riverside Community Hospital is located at 4445 Magnolia Avenue, Riverside, CA 92501. The official website is www.riversidecommunityhospital.com. RCH is a for-profit acute care hospital that provides both inpatient and outpatient services (Riverside Community Hospital, n.d.a).

Mission Statement:

The mission statement of RCH is to " commit to the care and improvement of human life" (Riverside Community Hospital, n.d.b).

Ownership and Designation:

RCH is owned by HCA Healthcare, a for-profit organization that operates hospitals and healthcare facilities across the United States (HCA Healthcare, n.d.). Thus, RCH is a for-profit facility and is designated as an acute care hospital (Riverside Community Hospital, n.d.a).

Patient Capacity:

I have personal knowledge the last time I worked at RCH that the hospital serves a large number of patients each month, although exact figures are not publicly available. To give one an intelligent estimate of the hospital’s patient capacity: RCH has 478 licensed beds, operates 24/7, and maintains a high occupancy rate (Riverside Community Hospital, n.d.a).

Major Departments:

Major departments at RCH include cardiology, emergency medicine, orthopedics, oncology, women's services, and rehabilitation services, among others (Riverside Community Hospital, n.d.c). I personally served at their Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Emergency Department (ED) when I used to work there.

Services Offered:

RCH offers a wide range of services, such as diagnostic imaging, surgical services, stroke care, bariatric surgery, and maternity services. The hospital is also a designated Level II trauma center (Riverside Community Hospital, n.d.c).

Charity Care:

One of the many things I am proud of about RCH is the fact that they provide charity care to eligible patients who cannot afford their healthcare expenses. The hospital's charity care policy follows federal poverty guidelines, and eligibility is determined based on a patient's income, family size, and assets (Riverside Community Hospital, n.d.d).

Subsidies:

Information regarding local, state, or federal subsidies received by Riverside Community Hospital is not publicly available.

Other Relevant Information

Accreditations and Awards:

RCH has received numerous accreditations and awards that reflect its commitment to providing high-quality healthcare. The hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission and holds certifications in various specialties, including the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award and the American College of Cardiology Chest Pain Center accreditation (Riverside Community Hospital, n.d.e).

Teaching Hospital:

RCH is also a teaching hospital affiliated with several academic institutions. The hospital offers medical education programs and residency training in multiple disciplines, including internal medicine, family medicine, general surgery, and psychiatry (Riverside Community Hospital, n.d.f).

Community Outreach and Partnerships:

RCH actively engages in community outreach initiatives and collaborates with local organizations to address healthcare needs in the area. These efforts include hosting health fairs, providing free health screenings, and supporting educational programs related to health and wellness (Riverside Community Hospital, n.d.g). I have been personally involved in several of these community outreach programs, particularly among the marginalized and institutionalized adults in the area.

Environmental and Sustainability Efforts:

RCH is committed to environmental stewardship and strives to minimize its environmental impact. The hospital has implemented various initiatives to reduce energy consumption, waste, and pollution, such as recycling programs, energy-efficient lighting, and environmentally-friendly cleaning products (Riverside Community Hospital, n.d.h).

RCH : Looking to the Future

Expansion and Development Projects:

RCH continues to grow and invest in its facilities to better serve the community. The hospital has undertaken several expansion and development projects over the years, such as the construction of a new seven-story patient tower, which added private patient rooms, new operating rooms, and a larger emergency department (Riverside Community Hospital, n.d.i). I was there during the grand opening and was involved in training a lot of the novice nurses in this new building.

Innovation and Technology:

RCH is dedicated to incorporating advanced technology and innovation in its healthcare delivery. The hospital utilizes cutting-edge medical equipment and digital healthcare tools to enhance patient care, diagnostics, and treatment. RCH is also involved in clinical research and trials to advance medical knowledge and improve patient outcomes (Riverside Community Hospital, n.d.j).

Leadership and Governance:

RCH is governed by a board of trustees, which includes representatives from the community, medical staff, and HCA Healthcare. The board oversees the hospital's operations, strategic planning, and financial management, ensuring that RCH continues to provide quality healthcare services and meets the needs of its patients (Riverside Community Hospital, n.d.k).

Workforce and Employment Opportunities:

RCH employs a diverse workforce of medical and nursing professionals, support staff, and administrative personnel. The hospital offers competitive compensation and benefits packages, as well as opportunities for professional growth and development. It is committed to fostering an inclusive work environment that values diversity and encourages collaboration among its employees (Riverside Community Hospital, n.d.l). I personally know that a massive exodus of nurse, doctors, and upper management personnel occurred during the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic with retention rates hitting an all-time low. Nevertheless, I heard that RCH is slowly but surely bringing their retention rates back up to pre-COVID times.

Conclusion:

RCH plays a pivotal role in the healthcare landscape of Riverside, California this side of Southern California. Through its commitment to growth, innovation, and technology, RCH continually enhances its facilities and services. Guided by strong leadership (with a new CEO) and a dedicated workforce, the hospital remains focused on providing quality care to its patients and serving the community's needs. RCH plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive healthcare services to the residents of Riverside, California. With its mission to improve human life, the hospital is actively involved in community outreach, medical education, and environmental initiatives while offering a wide range of services and charity care options to ensure access to quality healthcare for all.
