You are the new general manager of a municipal recreational facility in  your current community. There have been numerous problems in the past,  especially as related to not meeting goals and objectives and not  reacting efficiently to changes in the environment. You need to evaluate  organizational effectiveness and have decided to analyze the numerous  models that have been developed to help sport facilities measure  organizational effectiveness based on the varying levels of  environmental and organizational attributes. Choose one model (or  multiple if you see fit) and discuss how you would implement that model  into your organization.

There are always a number of models that can be used for organizational structures when

becoming a new General Manager of a recreational facility. But the one I would use in this case

when it comes to meeting future goals and objectives is the Matrix Model. There are two reasons

why this model would work, and they are as follows. First and foremost, this model would work

because it would allow people from different functional areas such as the marketing and IT

departments to work on certain projects together. This would also allow workers from different

departments to have a better understanding of what the other department also do, and they would

understand each other better. In this way there would be more unity and would allow the

workflow to be a lot easier. Not only that but according to K. Leonard of the Small Business

Chronicles “Managers oversee the department leads within their own team while they keep a

pulse on their teams as a whole. This allows for the managers to combine resources that

individual teams might now see in their own microcosm of the project” (Leonard, 2018). The

Matrix Model would be effective because all the progress of the project would be tracked. Not

only this but when it comes to resources this could also be combined from multiple departments

and would also strengthen the teamwork of everyone in the facility as a whole. This would make

it so that all employees and management would be working at their highest capacity which

would in turn make a higher success rate. But this is not the only model that I would implement

into this, there is another.

The second model that I would implement into this facility is called the Organizational

Model and this concerns breaking the organization into departments based on their function as a

whole within the facility. According to an article in Upcounsel “A functional structure is a

structure used to organize workers. They are grouped based on their specific skills and

knowledge. This vertically structures each department with roles and objectives all the way

president down to the sales departments”. The reason I would implement this model within the

facility is because each department would have their own manager, and this would assuredly help

control the quality and uniformity of all employees within a specific department. But not only

this but following the directions of a competent manager would definitely help aid in

productivity being high. Also, within this model it lays out the roles and responsibilities very

thoroughly which in essence means that there is accountability for the work. Not only this but

because this model groups employees based in their skills and knowledge, this would allow the

team to work more productively and be more cooperative. Because one of the biggest problems

within a sports facility is lack of communication or very unclear communication and this is

where the model is most helpful because it allows communication to be frictionless. This is clear

because of the hierarchy within the facility and the reduction of communication channels.

It is because of these two models which would be implemented within the nest few

months to a year that the facility would run more smoothly and also reduce the chances of

problems related to not meeting goals and objectives. Because these are two new models that the

facility is not used to they would be implemented slowly at first as I have said before until all

departments and employees understand and can put into full effect the changes that they would

need to make. This will be introduced into each department one at a time and will not be moved

forward to any other department until each can put the models into full effect. The departments

would be made to understand from beginning to end that they would be held accountable, and

this will be made absolutely clear with the department managers that are put into place. Because

both of these models’ emphasis communication it will be made clear that this would be the

managers most important job because without proper communication the facilities goals and

objectives will never be met. These models would also place value on each person in the

organization which would also make it so the goals and objective are met more effectively and

also at a better and higher rate.

These two models which I have mentioned would be the best ones to use within this

facility especially when it comes to meeting goals and objectives. They may take some time to

implement but the end result would be worth the time that is being put in. If these models are

followed as they are drawn out this should solve the whole problem that this facility is having

and make it a more productive facility.
