1) The Wounded knee, located on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota was where the historical massacre occurred. It was a deadly war between the native american and us. Government. The U.S government was afraid of the influence that the ghost dance movement was having. The U.S government believed that the ghost dance was going to cause problems between Americans and native americans. The amount of people that lost their lives to the conflict at Wounded Knee was a tragedy.
2) A ceremony called the Ghost dance was sweeping through many tribes of the West. It was part of a message of hope for Indian peoples being preached by a Paitue medicine man and prophet named wovoka. The dance would reflect purity and was necessary to appeal to the spirits of their ancestors. The Ghost dance was a spiritual movement and part of Indian culture. It expressed losses and suffered by Native Americans. It was also a religious revitalization that brought Indians to restore ancestral customs, the disappearance of whites, and return of buffalo.
3) I can’t believe that the native Americans were practicing their religion in a harmless way and they were still physically hurt for their freedom. The dance was meaningful to the Indians because it made a statement for their people and actually made a huge difference in their lives. The Indians felt like their prayers were working because they met once again with the animals who they believed were nearly extinct. The U.S government managed to decline the ghost movement from spreading after the Wounded Knee massacre.
