For this discussion post you will choose a cereal box
Now, conduct an audience analysis of the type of person you believe would purchase that specific cereal. You should use the cereal boxes as clues to reveal typical purchasers’ age range, gender, economic background, social status, group membership, values, etc. You can be creative and imaginative, but you must briefly explain the evidence that led them to make certain conclusions regarding the purchasers. So, for the box above, I would say something like:
The cereal is aimed at parents of children (whole grain in large font) and the children themselves (the ad for Olivia the Pig, which is a popular kids show). Values would include healthiness (whole grain appears twice, other nutritional information is on the front) as well as frugality (the Olivia the Pig book is free) and entertainment/fun for kids (Olivia is seen as fun).
Next use the purchaser profile they have created to brainstorm speech topics that would appeal to those particular purchasers. Come up with at least two potential topics. So, for the Cheerios, I would say:
Two speech topics that parents of young children who buy Cheerios might be “How to get your child to try new foods” and “Interesting places to go in Chico with your pre-K child.”
