Can you help me simplify my thesis to this prompt?
I haven’t done many opinion-based essays and am having trouble conjoining my thesis into one sentence.
Prompt:
Many states, including Texas, authorize homeowners to use deadly force against intruders regardless of an immediate threat to their own safety. As such, Nye’s error in the essay “Museum” could have had a far more tragic consequence.
To what extent should homeowners be allowed to shoot first and ask questions later in the case of a home invasion? What about someone on the street who simply feels threatened? Under what circumstances, if any, should personal freedoms be limited in the name of public safety?

Thesis:
In an effort to protect citizens’ rights to self-defense, many states have passed laws allowing homeowners to use deadly force against intruders. Homeowners should only be allowed to shoot first and ask questions later in the case of a home invasion if they reasonably believe their life or the lives of others in the home are in imminent danger. Someone on the street feeling threatened should call the police and rely on the legal system for protection. Deadly force should only be used as a last resort in self-defense if the person reasonably believes their life is in imminent danger. Personal freedoms should be limited in the name of public safety when necessary to protect the public from acts of violence, terrorism, or other serious threats. Such limitations should be limited to what is necessary and should be done with respect for fundamental human rights and freedoms.
