Leadership is an important piece in project management. I agree with you about having a leader that can help define goals, keep people on schedule. It’s also important for that leader to remove barriers and help the project management team think outside the box. Without this leadership, projects fail. Additionally, the project manager must understand the end result, not only for the company, but for the customer(or end user) as well. If the project team is focused on getting the project right for the end user, then the project is on it’s way to success. I believe having this mindset in project manager is so important because it’s the end user that is the most important.
