EULOGY FOR GATSBY
Ladies and gentlemen, we gather here today to say goodbye to a dear friend and a true gentleman, Jay Gatsby. I knew Gatsby for many years, and in that time, I came to realize that he was a man unlike any other.
Gatsby was a dreamer, and his dreams were as grand and as colorful as the shirts he wore. He had a passion for life that was contagious, and his energy was infectious. He was a man who believed in the power of hope, and he lived his life with that hope in his heart.
Gatsby’s love for Daisy was a love like no other. He spent his entire life trying to win her back, and even when it seemed impossible, he never gave up. He said to me once, “You can’t repeat the past,” (page 98) but I know that for Gatsby, the past was always present, and that’s what made him so special.
Gatsby’s legacy will be remembered for the way he lived his life, with a heart full of love, and a soul full of hope. He was a true romantic, and his love story is one that will be told for generations to come.
As we say goodbye to Gatsby, let us not forget the words he spoke to me on one of our last encounters, “I hope she’ll be a fool – that’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool. ” (page 109) Irony in his words, as he himself was the fool for the love of Daisy.
Let us remember Gatsby for his green light, that symbol of his unending hope and longing for Daisy. Gatsby’s light will continue to shine in our hearts, and his legacy will live on forever.
Rest in peace, dear Gatsby. You will be greatly missed.
