Five year old Amanda, and four year olds Katie and Lindsay, are playing in the housekeeping corner during free-play. Katie and Lindsay are busy ‘cooking’ some food while Amanda is setting the table. Amanda announces that she will be the mommy and that Katie will be the ‘kid’ and Lindsay will be the ‘baby’. Katie loudly objects and says she too wants to be the mommy, and Lindsay objects, proudly claiming that she is not a baby! The disagreement continues until the three are pushing as well as shouting.
