The question I was asked was: Provide examples of beliefs about the acceptable behaviours of children from two (2) different cultures or social groups
I answered: There are cultural norms in Japan that permit children to go outside the home and do chores as young as 2 years of age. This is because they want to teach children the importance of hard work and chores.
In Denmark, children are left outside the stores in their strollers while the parents and caretakers are inside shopping or eating at a restaurant. The strollers are not ordinary strollers but have modern technology which enables parents to monitor them from the inside while they run errands and complete their meetings. However, these may appear to be very bizarre in the broader western culture where leaving children unattended on the street and asking them to leave the home unattended are considered unacceptable and even concerning. In some countries, these are also illegal as they are considered forms of child abuse and neglect. However, within their particular cultural setup, these behaviours are normal and agreeable.
My lecturer said that I need to focus more on the children’s behaviour rather than their parents. What would be good examples of children’s behaviours in different cultures or social groups
