The average attention span for kids today is 7-seconds. You need to introduce new stimuli (hook) every 7-second to keep kids engaged – – at least this generation. Don’t believe me, watch any TV commercial or music video or movie. Gone are the days of a prolonged close-up of a misty-eyed Ingrid Bergman as Rick says, “We’ll always have Paris.”
K-3 students must know and understand the why component – – why are we learning this? If they can relate to the why you’ve hooked them! That is their ‘hook!’
