Scenario: (Australia based)
Reach Out Reach Out is a community service (NGO) organization based in a regional area. The purpose of Reach Out is to:
· strengthen and improve social and personal wellbeing for individuals, families and communities
· promote and facilitate access, equality and social justice
· deliver services locally that are of quality and have value. The values of Reach Out are:
LEADERSHIP: We use our social influence to motivate others to reach their full potential.
PARTNERSHIPS: We work collectively with others toward a common goal of positive social and cultural change.
SOCIAL JUSTICE: We protect and promote human rights by recognizing that all people are free and equal in dignity and rights.
Through Reach Out’s annual service survey and conversations with members of community an emerging issue of concern has been identified and reported at the Annual General Meeting. The issue is more people sleeping rough in the area.
After discussions with homeless people, members of the community and your partner organizations, Reach Out has identified the following aims for their homelessness program:
· Building social connections
· Showering
· Washing clothes
· Linking into existing services such as housing, soup kitchen, medical care.
Reach Out has received funding to develop a mobile van that has facilities for showering and clothes washing. Staff on the van will be trained volunteers who will have conversations with the people and will support them to link in with other services as the need is identified.
This project will be conducted over the duration of your course and will be in 3 stages:
develop, implement and evaluate.
The Reach Out Wash Van program has now been running for 6 months. This section of the project is about strategies for monitoring and evaluating the program.
The guidelines for the program are as follows:
It must run for at least four weeks and not be a once-off event.
There is a budget of $5,000.
You are restricted to using two existing staff members (these can be existing positions within your work placement organization) and new staff cannot be recruited.
You can make use of volunteers if necessary but you would be responsible for recruiting these people.
Approvals must be obtained after the planning stage is completed and then again after the program development has taken place prior to implementation.
Question:
1. Make 15 question survey for the participants to answer after the program finished. based it on the following feedback received document:
Your pilot program has now run and the four weeks have ended. Participants were provided with a survey to compete after the program finished.
After your survey was completed, the following feedback was received:
80% of participants said that they were “very happy with the program and it met their needs and expectations”.
15% of participants enjoyed taking part in the program but thought improvements could be made in relation to the timing of the program and the days it was running.
5% of participants thought it was ok, but they probably wouldn’t participate in a future one.
One formal complaint has been made that was addressed in line with your developed complaints policy and this was in relation to a WHS matter. One of the participants was observed by one of the residents engaging in an unsafe practice.
Other feedback and consultation:
Head management of your organisation (work placement) believe the program is having a positive impact on the participants. They support the program but have indicated that they are having some budgetary issues and if the next program is to run, they could only fund 50% of it. This program ran over budget by just 2.5%. Under a 10% variance is considered normal.
One of the staff involved in the program is moving and will not be able to work with you if the program is run again.
You have received enquiries from other people (who have heard positive reviews from the participants) interested in the program – meaning that if all people interested in attending the next one sign up – you would have an increase in numbers by 50% of the program.
