After reading through the Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP) statement by NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children), consider (and respond to) these questions related to each standard.
____________________________________________________________________________________
Standard 1: Child Development & Learning in Context. How can you support children as observers of their environment and foster their curiosity? What kinds of questions might you ask to connect children’s home experiences to science or other content areas?
Standard 2: Family-Teacher Partnerships and Community Connections. What do you believe partnerships with families and communities can do for children?
Standard 3: Child Observations, Documentation, & Assessment. What resources and supports would help educators incorporate appropriate assessment practices into their daily work with children?
Standard 4: Developmentally, Culturally, & Linguistically Appropriate Teaching Practices. Think of different children you have interacted with previously, whether as an educator, as a volunteer, or in your family. What similarities did the children share, and how were they different? How are their experiences alike or different from your experiences as a child or parent? How have you adapted your interactions with different children?
Standard 5: Knowledge, Application, and Integration of Academic Content in Early Childhood Curriculum. What parts of curriculum planning help educators create more engaging, hands-on learning experiences that are relevant and significant to the children as a group and for each specific child?
Standard 6: Professionalism as an Early Childhood Educator. What are ways that you can, as an early childhood educator, embed fair and equitable approaches in all aspects of your work?
