 Hello Time Travelers:

For this forum you are to act as a time traveler and report back on the things that you have experienced through your travels so far. Choose an event from the places and periods we have discussed in the past two weeks. As a time traveler your job is to observe but not interfere and not pass judgement on the civilization you are exploring. Your purpose will be to provide a first hand account of the event to report back to the present. Your report must be accurate and it must be well researched.

How to be successful in this post:

  • Choose two credible sources other than your textbook to provide you with information. If you use websites as sources be very careful of the types of websites you choose and make sure the information is credible.
  • Your report must be accurate and provide detail and specifics. The initial post must be 250 words and it must include citations for all information that is used from your research sources. This is a required part of all research writing.

**Subject will be the rise of the Mali Empire mid thirteenth century**

Introduction

When it comes to studying for a test, you don’t want to be like me. I was in middle school and my teacher told us that one day we would have to take a test on something we had never studied for or learned about before. The next day he told us the same thing again, but this time he said it might be multiple choice questions and not just one single thing we’d never studied before. At first I didn’t understand why he said this but then when I realized how many different types of questions were involved in taking tests I figured out how important each type was!

Choose two credible sources other than your textbook to provide you with information. If you use websites as sources be very careful of the types of websites you choose and make sure the information is credible.

  • Check the source.

  • Check the author of the information.

  • Check the date of publication.

  • Check whether a book or magazine is printed on good quality paper, as this will make it easier to read and you may find more interesting facts in it than in a magazine which has been printed on cheaper paper.

  • If you are going to use an article from an academic journal (for example), then check that there is no guarantee that this information has been peer reviewed by other academics before being published – some journals do not allow their authorship into question even though they are often cited by other scholars as authoritative sources!

Conclusion

Remember, all of your sources must be credible. This means that they should have expertise in the topic that you are researching and be willing to share their knowledge with you. If they do not then there is no point in using them as sources at all!
